ABOUT US

“It’s not a case of ‘ones to watch’.
It’s ‘WHY HAVEN’T YOU SEEN THESE GUYS YET?’.”

— Beth O’Doherty, DCNE

Through rigorous training, play and exploration, Julia and Rudi developed a unique, symbiotic, and fluid movement practice that lies at the core of their work and choreographic language.

In 2016, they founded HUMANHOOD, and since then they have created seven dance productions that have been performed in five continents at renowned festivals and theatres such as Venice Biennale in Italy, Festival Grec in Barcelona, Sadler’s Wells in London, SIDance in Seoul, CINARS in Canada and Loja International Festival in Ecuador. Their first dance film INFINITY was commissioned by the BBC and showcased on BBC in the UK.

In 2018, they received a commission by The Movement (Sadler’s Wells, Birmingham Hippodrome and The Lowry) to upscale their first-ever production ZERO. That same year they curated a special sold-out evening as part of Sadler’s Wells Wild Card.

The Story

Their first group piece TORUS was nominated for best choreography at the Catalan Critics Awards, their second ground piece ∞ {Infinite} for best choreography at Premis Butaca, and their duet ZERO won 1st Price at the Madrid Choreographic Competition as well as the Tanja Liedtke Award at Hannover Competition, for which they were commissioned to develop their practice with Australian Dance Theatre in Adelaide.

They have received further special commissions by Without Walls, Greenwich&Docklands International Festival, Norfolk & Norwich Festival and Déda Derby for their outdoor works ORBIS and SPHERA, which toured extensively in the UK and Internationally including Festival Tàrrega, La Mercè, Birmingham International Festival as well as being broadcast as part of Sadler’s Wells & BBC’s initiative: Dancing Nation.

Beyond the stage, Rudi & Julia embody their mission to bring the power of movement into people’s lives and have been invited to global platforms such as Mindvalley, Harvest Series, Envision Festival, guiding thousands of individuals of all ages and abilities to access the portal of the body through their movement practice.

The Research

Julia & Rudi perceive and experience the body as a sacred portal — a living bridge between the physical and the spiritual, animated by the breath of life itself.

Their lifelong curiosity about what moves us, what sustains us, and what makes us truly alive has carried them across the world — from the mountains of Ecuador to the wetlands of India, the highlands of Papua New Guinea, and the island of Taiwan, among others. Along the way, they have sought wisdom from hermits, shamans, and indigenous elders, exploring the essence of what it means to be human.

Their path has also intertwined with science — collaborating with researchers and physicists, including the NASA Kepler Mission’s leader in asteroseismology (the study of stars). Through this meeting of movement and science, they continue to explore how rhythm, vibration, and consciousness connect all forms of life.

Ultimately, their journey has become an offering — an ever-deepening exploration of a reality far greater than themselves. It is a return to the source of life, to the invisible presence that breathes through all things — a mystery both intimate and infinite

“Rudi and Julia have this special mix of artistic integrity, a signature style married to a truly compelling vision.
They are doing something in their own terms, honing in on the communal and spiritual nature the experience of dance and asking us to join them.”
